The Austin Vet Specialists

Veterinary Nurse

The Austin Vet Specialists is a new veterinary specialist-only centre in Adelaide, South Australia opening in May 2022. As an independent centre, we have the freedom and flexibility to do things our way (for example: we named our centre after our cat!).

Having opened in May 2022, we are off to a flying start and are growing quickly! Therefore, we are looking for a Veterinary Nurse to join our Nursing team.

You are awesome!

We encourage applications from veterinary nurses with prior referral/specialist experience as well as nurses wanting to progress their career by moving into the referral/specialist setting but are unsure where to start. Being a nice person is more important to us than experience! Full training and support of experienced staff will be provided so if you’d like to take the next step in your career within a caring and supportive team – get in touch!

About the position:

This role will be lively, exciting and fulfilling and to enjoy it fully, you will need to:

  • Be PASSIONATE about delivering the most AMAZING care. We are looking for a team member that is willing to go above and beyond to help our clients and their pets, and to make them feel comfortable.

  • Have the MOTIVATION to continue their own personal and professional development. We support each team member in their personal growth and ambitions, enabling and empowering their professional journeys. We encourage enrolment in further Nursing Diplomas and will provide training.

  • Can EMBRACE change and take ownership of this role. You will need to possess the ability to ask whether you can work differently or do things in a better way without finding fault or laying blame.

  • We love new ideas (INNOVATION) so this is the fantastic opportunity to input your original ideas, no matter how novel! All ideas are valid, not all will work; we just need people with the courage to try.

You'll do awesome things!

At The Austin, nurses are actively involved in procedures and patient care. You will rotate through the various departments (with full support), including wards, surgery and imaging, making sure we deliver exceptional patient care and outstanding client care to owners. Daily duties include admit/discharge of patients, induction/monitoring of anaesthesia and sedation, inpatient emergency and critical care, pre and post operative care, as well as maintaining the overall hygiene of the practice including ward areas and equipment.

You would ideally have the following skills and expertise:

  • Completed (or studying for) Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

  • Desire to grow professionally and undertake further training

  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures

  • Willingness to participate in rotating roster including night shifts

  • Possess initiative and a positive mindset

What’s in it for you?

  • We will invest in your continuing education (including Nursing Diplomas) but need you to bring the motivation. In return, we will provide you with a challenging and satisfying career.

  • We will provide a happy workplace (including dealing with any negative workplace behaviour) to ensure you enjoy working with us. At The Austin, we take recruitment very seriously because we know it is important to get the right people.

  • Being a specialist centre, expect ambitious standards and awesomeness but also expect a lot of happiness and fulfillment from your job.

  • Oh...and bring your dog to work – we have a dedicated pooch lounge for our team!

Details of position:

The role is permanent and fulltime (38 hours over 4 days per week) with a rotating roster including night shifts. Financial loading and other incentives apply providing an attractive salary which will grow with you as you develop your career. We believe in a work-life balance so there will be minimal weekends (if any) and no public holidays!

Prior nursing experience is useful but not essential (enthusiasm and willingness to learn count for a lot!). Full training and support of experienced staff will be provided. We encourage applications from veterinary nurses with prior referral/specialist experience as well as nurses wanting to progress their career by moving into the referral/specialist setting but are unsure where to start.
