The Austin Vet Specialists is growing! Having opened in May 2022, we are seeing an ever-growing and exciting caseload of mostly small animals with the occasional exotic and zoo animal (think lion, capybara, orangutan).

Whilst the job market is a buyer’s market at the moment, this position is unique. As a new centre, we want to be a force for change with a proper work-life balance (no weekends or public holidays), referral work only (no ER), excellent financial reward and the possibility to shape this role to your liking. About the role:

You will provide in hospital care for our surgical and internal medicine patients, together with two nurses. There will be no emergency consults allowing you to focus fully on providing exception care for our in-patients.

The role is permanent and both fulltime (3 nights Mon-Fri) and part-time (2 nights Mon-Fri) positions are available. The roster will rotate Mon-Fri between 7 pm and 7 am.

Financial loading and other incentives apply providing an attractive salary ($100,000 - $150,000 FTE) which will grow with you as you develop your career. We believe in a work-life balance so there will be no weekends and no public holidays!

 

We encourage vets wanting to adjust their lifestyle and income (work less for more money), and vets interested in working hours that allow for more family time (four or five day weekends).

 

Additionally, we encourage applications from vets wanting to progress their career by moving into the referral/specialist setting or vets with prior referral/specialist experience (e.g. rotating internship) looking for more exposure to specialist care.

 

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise:

  • Veterinary degree that is recognised in South Australia

  • Minimum of one year working experience in small animal veterinary practice

  • Willingness to participate in rotating roster Monday to Friday nights (2 or 3 nights per week)

 

 

About The Austin:

We are young but ambitious with lofty standards. Our custom-built hospital (900m2) is designed around a synergistic approach to patient care. Between specialist departments in surgery, internal medicine and imaging, we work as one team to ensure outstanding patient care and exceptional customer service.

 

Our hospital has all the instruments necessary to enable our team to relish their chosen careers, and flourish. This includes intensive care facilities, large central treatment area, surgery wing, full suite of imaging equipment and dedicated medicine room.

 

Our two internal medicine specialists (DipECVIM and DipACVIM) are supported by board-certified specialists in surgery (DipECVS) and diagnostic imaging (DipECVDI) including resident in imaging, discipline-specific interns in all departments, and a team of amazing nurses.
